Goal

Goal

Netflix had never offered a TV gaming experience before—this was a completely new product for both the platform and its members. Users needed to connect their phone as a controller to start playing, but there was no existing flow or familiar behavior to guide them.

As the product designer, I set out to create a branded, intuitive introduction while working with multiple disciplinary team across Netflix. The goal was simple: build trust, ensure quick comprehension, and reduce drop-off—all before the first game launched.

The Challenge: Balancing Content Density & Complexity

One of the biggest challenges was finding the right balance between content and clarity—too much instruction risked overwhelming users, while too little left them confused. We had to carefully manage information density, ensuring the flow felt lightweight but still guided users through a brand-new setup process.

Visual elements like QR codes, pairing instructions, and device icons needed to feel cohesive and instantly understandable, without adding friction. Designing for both emotional resonance and technical accuracy required constant iteration and tight cross-functional alignment.

Building With Flexibility, Intention & Clarifty

From animations that built emotional momentum to sound cues that reinforced connection feedback, every detail was intentionally choreographed to guide users with clarity and delight. This tight cross-functional alignment - ranging from Sr. Product Designers, Motion & Sound Designers, and Engineer - allowed us to create a first-time flow that felt seamless and premium—resulting in a 100% completion rate across the experience.

The Outcome: A Premium and Intuitive Connection Flow

The success of this experience went beyond just launching a new feature—it validated that users could quickly understand and complete an entirely new interaction model within the Netflix ecosystem. Achieving a 100% completion-to-task rate proved the flow was not only intuitive but also enjoyable, even for first-time users. More importantly, the foundational work we did this flow laid the groundwork for future multiplayer gaming experiences.
